In May of this year I had the pleasure of dressing the reception and dance for Diane and Martin’s wedding day. Their ceremony was held at a local church and their reception at The Laichmoray Hotel in Elgin.
We first met back in Autumn 2014 here at our Bothy studio. Diane had photos of the gorgeous bridesmaids’ dresses which was the perfect starting point. A combination of lace over a blush taffeta sash proved to be the perfect colour match for a dress which featured lace over a blush bodice. Diane’s own dress was an entirely lace affair also in a classic A line. With the canvas in place we could now begin to gather ideas for the tables.
Diane’s flowers and those of the Bridesmaids were to be created by Blossoms of Elgin and would be a lovely vintage collection of roses, hydrangeas and peonies in soft pinks, ivories and blush shades with sprigs of eucalyptus. Diane fell in love
with our much loved submerged flower cylinders. A trio of cylinders filled with complimenting silk blooms submerged in clear water. Set with crystals and finished with a submersible white light. I was keen to keep the choice of bloom in the cylinder in keeping with the bouquets so a combination of authentic pale pink, blush and ivory peonies was sourced. When Diane saw her mock up for the first time she said “WOW this looks lovely!! 🙂 Love it!!”
The top table would be set with candle light and cubes dressed and ready to receive the bouquets (I am a big fan of using every element in a wedding as much as possible). With a few other additions (more lace of course) the wedding breakfast was set.
Then we turned our attentions to the dance. For those not familiar with “The Laich” it has an upstairs/downstairs arrangement. Guest entrance is via the large dance hall with dancefloor and stage surrounded by seating for a large party. Then upstairs on a gallery overlooking the dance is where the wedding breakfast takes place. The perfect set up which allows both areas to be set in tandem and yet not interfere with each other. It also provides two fabulous spaces for dressing. Diane was keen that guests arriving for their wedding would not enter via an undressed space and that the two areas would not feel disconnected. We toyed with seat covers and sashes but the colouring in the room really doesn’t demand covers for themes such as Diane and Martin’s. After several ping pong messages the solution suddenly appeared. We were thrilled with the result – and working with Blossoms again to provide lovely fresh flowers in our wee dressed vases on our dressed tables was literally a marriage made in heaven. The Laich were fab too and helped us get the right layout and table set up so it had a sense of belonging. I love fresh flowers and confess I was a little bit besotted by the combination. And not least because they featured even more…you guessed it…lace.
I often say that when our couples choose their suppliers for their big day it becomes their ‘wedding team’. Diane and Martin’s day is a fine example of their team working together to give them the very best day they could. The setting at The Laichmoray really couldn’t be bettered. Two spaces is a great way to have two “reveals”. The upstairs keeps the wedding breakfast intimate. Then head below into a much bigger space which filled to capacity means you really can party with all your friends. The staff there work so hard to make your day all about you. It is always a pleasure to work alongside them. Meanwhile what is a wedding without flowers? Blossoms are a popular choice for wedding flowers and it easy to see why. Gorgeous flowers and they really did pull out all the stops to make sure those wee vases were very much part of the theme.
But the final word goes to Mr and Mrs Charlesworth. Did they have a great day? I will let you be the judge of that.

“Thank you so much for everything you done to make yesterday so perfect! We had an amazing day and so many compliments on the decor. It was so lovely to watch everything come together over the last few days. So much hard work put in by yourself and the staff at the Laichmoray to make it look as wonderful as it did. Thanks again for helping us in having our PERFECT Day!!”.
